A Guide to Farmers' Markets

A morning trip to a farmers market at the weekend is worth doing and London is full of them throughout the year. These markets are a way for local farmers to share their fresh produce with the public and get a fair price for them.

If it’s your first time, there are a few things you should know:

  1. Bring at least one shopping bag. You won’t regret it when you’re trying to stuff a basil plant into a handbag.

  2. Make sure you have cash. Coins and small change are even better.

  3. Prepare a list of things you might need or want. This ensures that you won’t go over budget or waste time aimlessly wandering around the veg stall.

London’s finest:

Alexandra Palace - everything you need in one place.

Wimbledon Park - on the small side but one of the friendliest.

Lavender Hill - a new market opening this year.

Take the kids, go with a friend or on your own because if you’re a food lover, you’re not going to want to miss out!
