The second in our series of influencer events; this time, we partnered with About Time Magazine to host a wine pairing evening celebrating our new dishes inspired by EatFirst Head Chef Benn Hodges' passion for middle eastern flavours.
We took over the wonderful PrintWorks Kitchen in Clerkenwell for the evening and created a beautiful setting for 30 VIPs from magazines, newspapers, and Instagram to enjoy themselves.
Our house sommelier, wine expert Miranda Fong from Bottle Apostle gave the crowd a very interesting talk about the three wines chosen for the evening:
- Collalto Extra Dry Prosecco from one of the oldest and most influential wine estates in Italy.
- Lavradores De Feitoria Branco from a Portuguese region ordinarily famous for its robust reds and Ports.
- Massaya Classic from the Tanail Estate, 1000m above sea level in the Bekka Valley, Lebanon.
The journey through wine started with Collato Extra Dry Prosecco and mini Grilled Aubergine Panini canapes followed by traditional Baba Ganoush and Hummus dips with a dukka, sesame, and a hazelnut spice blend served alongside wholemeal flatbreads with the Lavradores Branco.
Main dishes included a middle-eastern beef coleslaw with amaranth micro popcorn, slices of house roast rump from award winning butchers Flock & Herd, orange scented raisins, and pomegranate seeds. There was also a Fattoush salad of colourful French heirloom tomatoes, cucumber, minted herbs and sourdough croutons. And our house Flat Iron Steak, all paired with the velvety smooth red wine Lebanese Massaya Classic.
For those with room for dessert, our Coconut Chia Pot made with coconut milk, maple syrup, and toasted coconut flakes was served beside a delicious Crème Caramel pudding with vanilla seeds and whipped vanilla cream, gave a sweet celebratory end to the evening.
It was really satisfying to see everyone enjoying our food, wines and sharing their stories using #WeEatFirst. Chefs Benn Hodges and Edoardo Putzu produced some incredible food styling and plating using the meals which are all available to try right now on EatFirst.
