Benn brings home the trophies

Best Takeaway Chef - Benn Hodges.jpg

What a years it's been for the team of chefs at EatFirst. Two 2 Star Great Taste Awards for our Grilled Baby Chicken with Aubergine and Spicy Flat Iron Steak, and now we've gone and bagged the award for Best Chef In Britain.

Chef Benn and the team attended The British Takeaway Awards at The Savoy Hotel in London on Monday. The star-studded awards were presented by comedian John Bishop and attended by Kelly Brook, Chris Hughes, Ainsley Harriott, Rachel Riley, Sarah Willingham, Lisa Faulkner and Helen George.

The BTAs recognise the unsung heroes of the nation’s favourite restaurants and reward the amazing contribution takeaways chefs and delivery drivers make to both their local communities and the British economy.

Restaurant owners all across Britain were asked to nominate chefs and create a submission on why they deserve to win. From the hundreds of entries, five chefs were invited to the Cactus Kitchens in London, the home of BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen and Michel Roux Jr’s cookery school, for a Masterchef style cook off for a panel of expert judges, including celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott and restaurant investor and former Dragons Den star, Sarah Willingham.

Benn was over-the-moon to win the award, because it not only recognised his technical ability to cook amazing food, but also highlighted his passion for bringing quality and sustainability into the takeaway industry.  He beat hundreds of other takeaway chefs across Britain to scoop the top award and a £1,000 cash prize.

Even the UK Managing Director of Just Eat, Graham Corfield, who chaired the judging panel got in on the action saying: “Chefs are the heroes of the British takeaway industry, they work tirelessly behind-the-scenes to bring us our favourite meals. Benn Hodges impressed us with the expertise with which he brings a fusion of flavours together and his passion for the highest quality food. His dedication to his art is commendable; he’s a great example of the talent within the industry.”

We couldn't agree more Graham. Check out our latest menu at www.eatfirst.com
