Great Taste, which celebrates the very best food and drinks brands in the UK, has announced the stars of 2017 and EatFirst is a winner!
Widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme in the world, Great Taste champions artisan and speciality food producers from across the country. Over 12,300 products were judged this year and less than 1,200 were given two-star awards.
Our two signature dishes - Grilled Baby Chicken with Aubergine and Spicy Flat Iron Steak made the cut and came as shining examples of outstanding culinary excellence with 2 stars each.
The panel of judges included; chef, food writer and author, Gill Meller, MasterChef judge and restaurant critic, Charles Campion, author and chef, Zoe Adjonyoh, baker Tom Herbert, and food writer and baking columnist Martha Collison as well as food buyers from Fortnum & Mason, Selfridges, and Harvey Nichols.
Here is what the judges had to say:
Grilled Baby Chicken with Aubergine - "This is a really well thought out dish. The aubergines have the right amount of cooking with the clever touch of bonito adds an extra layer of flavour and salt. The chicken was succulent, perfectly cooked and had a very well judged deeply savoury glaze that cooked down really well. The judges thought this dish raises the bar on ready meals and trail blazes what they can taste like."
Spicy Flat Iron Steak - "Very attractive presentation, it has been put together with real thought and imagination. Good mix of textures and many layers of flavour. The judges detected we think are some notes of yuzu, which added perfume. The steak is good quality and cooked really well. A well conceived and executed meal."
